The Summer 2024 edition is out on time and perfect for late summer reading now that the heat waves have receded and it's pleasant to sit out on the porch again. This issue covers a wide variety of subjects you can pick and choose from which we hope you will enjoy. Many thanks to our members and to the many new contributors for sharing their talent. A special shout out to Wendell Hawken, Theresa Thompson, Carol Krauss, Deborah Prum, Hugh Nicolay, Rudolf Dunn, Steph Seton, and Alex Michael who responded to our call!
In the words of our managing editor, John Nicolay...
"Writers and illustrators are welcome on our path. We are a friendly crew. We are
resolute in quality and form. History is formulaic although creative nonfiction has its place.
Keep abreast of the opportunities and read the publications of interest to you.
The lesson should not escape us. Immortality escapes us. Legacies are fleeting. And
as Nietzsche would say, “What’s the point?” The point for the Virginia Writers Project must
be to deliver value. The writing we publish may be a benchmark of sorts. We are not
pretentious or portentous. That remains the domain of readers and mothers."
